Kinesio Taping
The Kinesio Tape Technique can be used as part of a lymphoedema management programme or as part of an injury and pain management programme. The method utilises a thin, porous cotton fabric tape
which when applied correctly will lift the skin to increase the space between the skin and muscle. The reduced localised pressure helps promote circulation, lymphatic drainage and lessens the irritation on the subcutaneous neural pain receptors.
As an end result, the Kinesio Taping technique reduces pain, swelling and muscle spasm and subsequently promotes the body's natural healing processes. Additionally, the built-in stretch of the tape supports fatigued, weakened and/or strained muscles.
Kinesio Taping can be used for many soft tissue indications, including:
- oedema
- tendonitis
- muscle strain
- ligament sprains
- joint arthrosis
- bursitis
- adhesive capsulitis
- heamatoma
- patellofemoral(knee)pain
- shin splints
- back pain
